Masterclass: Sculptural Felt hats - diving into creativity

Learn how to make perfect fitting, sculptural hats in any shape from simple to fancy, funky to spectacular.

If you are a hat lover like me - you will adore this class! I will show you a beautiful technique turning hat making into creative fun. You will be able to create any hat shape you are dreaming of and create it in a very intuitive way.

My detailed step by step class, allows even (courageous) beginners to make beautiful hats. However to get most of this class, having good basic felting techniques is an advantage I’m showing many outstanding techniques which will be particularly inspiring for advanced & professional feltmakers.

Organisation of the 4 +1 online sessions

Day 1 (~3h) : Making an egg hat (mini hat sampler) to become aware of the whole process

You are invited to create with me live a sampler which perfectly matches an egg. It allow us see all steps involved in the making and the egg hats are a fun item in themselves!

I highly recommend you to work with me life as this will allow to ask questions “on the go”.

First day mini hat samplers can be used as stylish egg warmers!

Day 2 (~1h30) From idea to template making

How to measure a head, calculate the layout size, make the adjustable template and how to start the layout

Day 3 (~1h30): Composition & Surface design

Day 4 (~1h): Shaping - tips & tricks

—> + Extra show and tell session ~1 to 2 weeks later.

This extra session, scheduled in function of students’ needs and wishes, gives you time to finish your hat or make more if you like. It’s an opportunity to for feedback and getting answers if any question popped-up

List of supplies:

  • wool top (or combed wool) in 1-2 main colors

  • optional: scrapes of thin fabrics for nunofelting

  • bubble plastic

  • polyethylene foam (bubble wrap can be alternatively used)

  •  water

  • a sprinkler bottle

  • towels

  • cotton or rubber bands

  • duck tape

  • scissors

  • optional: all kind of felting tools you are used to (soap, sticks…)
