In this live online class you will learn to create a funky hollow form critter and be able to adjust it to your wishes and ideas. An original Ariane Mariane template will be send to you shortly before the beginning of the class. Transferred onto polyethylene foam or bubble wrap it will serve you as a base to create the bird or fish like 3D sculpture.
You decide whether you felt live with me or watch and take notes.
My step by step guidance during the class, allows students from all levels to follow. Still it can be challenging for students with few felting experience to finish the sculpture in 3h. For beginners this kind of class is what I would teach in a 1 day class.
If at any moment you feel overwhelmed, don’t hesitate to stop and switch to watching & taking notes.
Shortly after the class a recording will be available, allowing you to go back to explications you have missed or forgotten. The recording will be available on a private & password protected website for at least 1 year.
For advanced felt makers this class is interesting because it’s based on knowledge I accumulated in more than 15 years as a professional feltmaker and over 10 years of teaching. I share tips and trick allowing to transform a given pattern into an original , one of a kind sculpture and create beautiful high quality felt.
The huge advantage of the live classes is that you can ask questions and it enables me to adjust my teaching in function of your needs.
It’s a very inspiring experience to felt together - most often we are connected from all around the world.
I have notice that being in a familiar surrounding allows to listen more to our own ideas and desires. Having all our material in reach is also a huge and stimulating advantage. And even so I invite you to show your work in progress to the other students from time to time, we aren’t constantly confronted with what our neighbor is doing.

Materials:
~ 40 g of wool top (or combed wool) in two main colors for the body
~ 10 g of wool fibers in colors you want to use for the beak and crest
two pieces of bubble plastic ~ 60 cm (28”) x 100 cm (40”)
Ariane Marian’s hollow form critter template cut out of polyethylene foam (bubble wrap can be alternatively used but I highly recommend the foam)
lukewarm, then hot water
a sprinkler bottle
(if you don't have one you can use a sponge, I'll show you how)one or two old towels
two stripes of cotton or rubber bands (helpful for beginner)
scissors ( + a pointy one used for embroidery is handy!)
optional: all kind of felting tools you are used to (soap, sticks…)
