Mixed Media textile art on felt - students work #3
From February to Mai 2021, I had a blast teaching Mixed Media Textile Art online workshops. In this post I want to give some insights to this creative classes I cherish so much.
A growing mixed media community
Early 2021, sixteen feltmakers, split in two classes, discovered the endless possibilities of enhancing the felted surface. In the same time former MMTA students were evolving in follow-up classes. All came together in a private Facebook group to share and inspire each other.
The slideshow below gives an inside of the beautiful works made.
From mark making to beautiful mixed media art
It’s a mix of all work submitted by students: from the first steps of mark making with self made brushes to beautiful finished cowls, brooches and murals. I hope the shown work inspires you, wehter you are a lover of textile art, a fiber, felt, textile or mixed media artist!
Gratitude
I’m so grateful for the power and great vibes online teaching allows me to spread. Nearly every day I get beautiful messages either on social media or in a private message from students letting me know their excitement about the new opportunities they are able to see. Most often they state that the MMTA class allowed them to become braver in their own expression They state to feel encouraged trying out new things. For some the huge improvement is to not going for perfection in each step anymore and trust the process .
Inspiration is spreading in both direction!
It’s wonderful to hear that I inspire others! In the same time I feel so much more inspired ever since I started these online classes. My inspiration comes also from my students! With every exchange, every question, my creativity is challenged and grows. My creative wings have stretched during this last year because of all the beautiful like-minded persons I meet!
Students statments about the MMTA classes
In my last blog post I already shared a lot of the wonderful feedbacks I got over the last months. As I don’t want to bother you, this time i share only a single one. It’s written by award winning artist Judy Weiss from Canada. She used her scholar ship prize to sign up for my MMTA class. Her feedback resumes perfectly what the MMTA class is all about:
It was a pleasure being in Mixed Media Textile Art class. I feel like it was six weeks well spent. The greatest thing for me was that I learned new ways of thinking about the process of making art from you and from my fellow students.
The class challenged me to push my materials (silk, felt, paper and colour) further, to use digital processes in design and production, and to be unafraid to ask 'what if' at any point in the process - that experience is never wasted and variations are wonderful stepping stones to fresh ideas and new work.
It also gave me ideas for what to do when a piece isn't working, or I am not satisfied with it. My next challenge is to apply what I have learned in the context of my own body of work. So excited for that!
